Hey there! Thanks for stopping by my page on your baby naming journey! Finding the perfect baby name for your soon -to-be buckaroo or southern bell is very important! I hope you stay awhile and find the best baby name for you!
This page began because my friend is a "country gal"! From hunting to rodeos, fishing, backroads and dirt, she's all country! When her time came to name her second child she found herself stuck and nothing was appealing to her or her husband. So they went to the internet, hey hey! And...couldn't find nothin' ! So here came the plea for a page of country, western, southern, cowboy, cowgirl, cowpoke, buckaroo, buckarette...whatever suites your fancy - Baby Names!
First a couple things to consider about country style names and what makes them country. You may ride the rodeo, farm, live in the south, live in the north, drive a tractor, raise horses, live to hunt, only wear boots, only drive big trucks, go muddin', have a coon dog... whatever it is that YOU put the 'country' in! The same goes for names. While I wouldn't think of Christopher as a western name, if I saw a little boy in some blue jeans and straw hat it would cause me to think differently! Get it? Therefore, if you consider yourself country, then choose a name you love and it will become a good country name!
There are some general lines that come to mind when thinking of names for a baby cowboy or cowgirl! Yes, there are definite country names out there. If that is what you are in search of , this is your page!
Combined names: This is when two names are put together to make one. This is a grand, old western trend! It stills falls in the country category today. Two traditional names such as John and Mark, combined to make that first/called name, JohnMark. There's also the double name, JohnJohn, this can be the actual given, registered name;however we tend to see that this is more of a nickname style than given.
Place names: The idea of naming your baby after a city or state. There are a few place names that are not considered western style names. Continent names, nation names and some major city names (i.e.Brooklyn) are NOT considered country, western baby names.
Nature names: Very country, hick, redneck, deep south! But if that's you , go for it! Nature names are becoming more known. Take a long walk through your acreage and begin naming off everything...you should find a pretty good name quickly! Kidding, there's some below!
'Thing'names: names of things, very similar to nature names, just not anything to do with nature. Thing names country style have to do with rodeo's , riding, guns, work and so on.
"er" names : names that end in 'er'. Traditionally considered a country name if it ends in 'er'. There are some that are being more widely used now, like Tyler, but still has it's southern roots!
Last Name: Using the mother's maiden name or a ancestral family surname for the first name, began in this category. However using surnames has traveled beyond country style and has become a trend in the States recently. Can still fall in the country style category though. Especially if the last name ends in an "ee" sound.
Hope these tips help you out as you search for that country-fried name for your baby boy!
